never look for the truth in your mother's eyes
Blackbird is the New God of death and dreams. She is accompanied everywhere by a common blackbird she calls Caledonia that appears as a normal bird to nearly everyone else. Caledonia is in fact a human soul attached to the body of the bird by a little of Blackbird's godhood, pried out of her own being decades ago when she made the joining to keep Caledonia on the mortal plane. They're linked with one another; they are always aware of each other, can find one another reliably, get a good grasp on moods, etc.
Caledonia retains his mind and is capable of speech but often only talks with Blackbird. They've been living together for long enough that Caledonia is still one of the only souls in the world that can call Blackbird Delli. Blackbird is currently accompanied by her three 'apprentices', Kisosen, Saranyu and Malakbel. They do a lot of traveling to help ghosts cross over and sometimes they need to use her god powers to get where they need to go; all three of the boys have thick silver rings that allow them to cross with her without it ruining their mortal lives. Their home is deep in the desert in Najaati where all the locals assume regular people can't live and they maintain a very nice place there.
Blackbird is kind of short-tempered, a little mean to folks she thinks don't deserve her time, and easily frustrated. She has a short fuse but a quiet kind of anger. When she gets genuinely mad at the boys she usually takes off for a couple days on her own, leaving Caledonia behind to call her back if they absolutely need her. She's a god so living a mortal life has been a steep and strange climb; but she refused to take the brothers when she was first called to them and so this was the only compromise. She has a soft heart that she hides something fierce and gets terribly mean when she's cornered into anything vulnerable. She does love the brothers but she's bad about showing it and she's really only close to Saran right now, who seems to favor her the most and actually listens when she explains to them what they're doing. She's impatient, cynical, more used to ghosts than living people and so has a tough time wading through most conversations. Blackbird gets tired of things quickly and gives up on stuff she's not immediately good at, no matter what it is.

did you ever imagine the last thing
you'd hear as you're fading out was a song
