walked down the soft shoulder and I count my steps
headed vaguely eastward, sun in my eyes
Blackbird was called to reap Kisosen, Saranyu and Malakbel a few years back. She hesitated when she saw the way the boys interacted with the numerous ghosts that surrounded them; mortals infrequently sensed ghosts at all, let alone showed the ability to hear and speak with them. The only compromise to not reaping them was taking them as her own and so Blackbird walked away with three apprentices in tow. The four of them now live in the desert in the interior of Najaati, where it's always been assumed that people could not survive. All three of the brothers have chunky silver rings that Blackbird infused with bits of her godhood so they could god-step with her; travel anywhere in the world instantaneously and survive the trip. They go wherever the ghosts are the loudest and help to bring them peace so they can move on. Saranyu is the middle brother but usually acts as the eldest in the traditional sense; he's definitely the most responsible out of the three of them and the most protective over the other two. He's the closest to Blackbird and she relies on him the most.
Saranyu is the peacekeeper, the one who steps in between his brothers and Blackbird when a fight is about to break out. He's always served as this with Bel, whose temper is infamous, and Blackbird, who butts head with the youngest almost every time they speak. Saran is very cheerful and appears to be nearly always in a good mood; he's quick to smile and laugh and tell jokes to set people at ease. He gets along equally as well with regular people as ghosts and he's got a gentle touch that wins the shyest spirits to his side. He's extremely easy to talk to and so friendly that people can't help themselves but like him. He's willing to bend over backwards to help people, even strangers; he would give the clothes off his back to someone who needed them without hesitation. Saran really likes children and animals and has a soft spot for hurt critters in need. Saranyu has come to genuinely love Blackbird and while he would never call her mom he does consider her their parent. He's soft-spoken and rarely raises his voice, even if someone is yelling at him. Saran is the shortest of the three by a large margin; Kiso and Bel both have a habit of tucking him under their chin to cuddle when Saran is feeling affectionate.
