sweet shot of kerosene
when I threw it back it poisoned me
The late King Adonis was never someone Cassini was particularly interested in serving. He expected to wait him out until the next king came around and perhaps find that person a little more tasteful, but he never expected Ganymede. Shy, gentle, painfully merciful Ganymede, who appeared delighted to be assigned a Sword and Dagger of his own for the sole reason of having constant companions. Ganymede, who asked almost immediately if the three of them could be friends, and seemed more surprised than hurt by Cassini's ferocious no. Cassini is a Dagger, so he specializes in hand-to-hand combat and knifework; he can do distant stuff with knife-throwing but the majority of distance defense falls to Damascus, his Sword. He's generally fairly reserved when he's around anyone but Damascus, though he usually fails to hide his true feelings. He has a tendency to loudly scoff when people make dumb decisions and his political face-making could use some work. He's often tired of somebody somewhere and complains quite cheerfully to Damascus about whatever such-and-such is annoying him that week. He enjoys training and fighting but finds life is a lot simpler when it's just him against an enemy with a blade in hand. He is not at all emotionally available except occasionally for Damascus.
Swords and Daggers are molded from children given to the crown; often orphans but sometimes kids sold to bevy the lives of their siblings and rarely the youngest heirs of nobles desperate to make something for themselves. They are paired when they're around 10 and kept in those pairs until one or both of them die. They live and train and grow up together and are eventually assigned to a King, and with that King they remain until their deaths. They are with the king 24/7 no matter what, as assassinations are so commonplace. If they fail and the king dies, they die with them. Cassini and Damascus were paired the usual way and after a rough, begrudgingly hostile start they became extremely close friends. They were assigned to Ganymede as a sort of throwaway gesture; expected to be easily bought off but unexpectedly loyal to the young king when they were eventually offered bribes. Cassini was outright offended the first bribe offer they got; initially it was a pride thing but a little over a week after being assigned to Ganymede he was 100% behind the man. He still gets wrongfooted when Ganymede is too nice to him, always expecting there to be a second shoe waiting to drop, but he's working on it. He's very driven when he's protecting Ganymede but otherwise is very good at picking a place to stand and idling for hours.
