selling the words, we both forgot
bridges are burning as we walk away
Eltaninn was born in the future, in a plane far different from the Desert. He grew up the eldest heir to the Coldwell throne of the Coldwell Planetary Alliance and best friends with his younger cousin, his supposed rival but his closest confidant. The two of them were inseparable and it drove his cousin Uschi's mother mad; when he was three she tried to kill him, hiring an assassin to come into his nursery in the middle of the night. Eltaninn survived the encounter but his father bought him an IORS, an Intelligent Ophidian Resistance System, that Eltaninn called Beep. Beep has been with Eltaninn ever since then, and Eltaninn values him as a close companion despite Beep being intended to be a simple AI system. As Uschi and Eltaninn grew up and grew closer Uschi's parents became more desperate for their son to be the only choice, and so hired a group of men to take Eltaninn out. They drugged him and dumped him in a garbage chute thinking he would die at the bottom but he went through a door to the Desert instead, and he's been here ever since. That was four years ago, and Eltaninn's seething injustice was quieted down. He will never forget what was done to him, will maintain a grudge against Uschi's parents for the rest of his life, but he's not actively angry at all.
Beep is a mechanical snake (Emerald edition, limited release) that's assigned to a single person and protects that person from harm. Eltaninn has used male pronouns for him since he was a child and Beep has never minded. Beep was knocked out by an EMP when the men grabbed Eltaninn and he has some lingering damage from it still, but he retains his learning intelligence software and he's about on par with a human adult now. He loves Eltaninn a lot and is usually coiled about his arm or neck. Eltaninn is soft-spoken, generally even tempered and full of unexpected mercy. He was raised to be cutthroat but the lessons never quite took; while he was mad when he first arrived at the Desert he got over it quickly. He runs an inn next to Verbena's shop now, and is close friends with Coyotl despite their very different pasts. Eltaninn laughs easily, smiles a lot, and seems to genuinely like 90% of the people he meets. He misses home and he misses Uschi but he's actually happy here most days. He likes his work and he loves guiding people home, enjoys walking them back to a door with Quetzalxochitl and daydreaming about stepping through himself. He never would, not without a guarantee that it would take him back to his world, and as Quetzal has explained many times the doors don't work with guarantees.
