you know all of our friends are gods
and they all tell us how to paint our face
Keahi comes off as very mild-mannered and super blase. He's extremely introverted and is standoffish to everybody except Rue; he infrequently talks in a conversation unless he is directly asked something, and even then he usually only offers one-word answers. He likes to obsessively tie knots over and over again on a piece of rope that he keeps in his pocket as a way to focus his mind and emotions. When he speaks he lowkey sounds annoyed all the time, especially when he's talking to Rue; this baffles people, as Rue always beams like Keahi has just said something very sweet every time he speaks to him. In truth, Keahi is actually a very angry person, and has a mean streak in him a mile wide. It was Rue who figured out that Keahi's insane powers are tied to his emotions and Rue who convinced Keahi that he needed a way to control them after the first time Keahi lost his temper and almost sank their island home. The only real compromise Keahi could figure out was to leash his emotions in so tightly that he can't get angry over anything and then his abilities won't activate. This means that if there's a fight Keahi has a split second to decide whether or not to let himself be mad; if he thinks Rue can handle it then he keeps to himself, steps idly around the people Rue is kicking the hell out of without a second thought.
He's more than a foot shorter than Rue and so grabs and yanks on Rue's horns whenever he wants Rue to be eye-level with him. Rue laughs every time, no matter how hard Keahi pulls. He's genuinely angry basically all the time but he keeps it under wraps so he seems detached and emotionless. Outside of Rue Keahi doesn't really talk to anybody. He's trying to get a good enough grasp on his abilities that him and Rue can leave the orphanage as soon as possible. He has used his powers before so he has decent control over them but the magic is so big-scale that he has to be very careful when he lets loose. He usually becomes so angry that he is little like himself; during these events Rue is the only person who can get close enough to Keahi to actually calm him down and bring him back to normal. Keahi is hoping to at some point gain enough control over his powers that he doesn't have to be so careful about maintaining an emotionless pretense but it could be decades yet. It frustrates Keahi that Rue is so careless around him; Rue has never been afraid of Keahi's powers, even when they were little and Keahi almost killed them all. Keahi considers Rue his brother and wants him to be safe; although he's never said it aloud he's deeply afraid of hurting or killing Rue one of these days.

it's the one that never leaves a trace
