I’m wasting your time, just talking to you
maybe best you go on home
Peregrine grew up in the jungle and never expected to leave it. He stumbled on Qui and Zan purely on accident, and a tentative friendship was forged over long afternoons spent on the cusp of the woods. Peregrine was eventually lured out and joined Qui and Zan in a nearby village, and he has been there with them ever since. They are both aware of what he is, being a morsi and consequently being dependent on consuming pain, but they've individually come to terms with it. Grey is always reluctant to feed on them, finding the distinction between friends and food an important line, but in desperate times exceptions have been made. Neither have ever minded it; they see him less as a monster and more as another brother. Grey largely eats off the rest of the village's day to day pains and keeps to himself whenever he gets hungry. He recently gorged during the plague that swept across Hechiz and was out of commission for nearly a week on the excess. He roused himself only when Qui began the fight for Tlatoani, feeling a sharp mortal fear for the boy that he'd never experienced before.
Grey is difficult to get a read on, because he's a natural predator and can be convincingly charming when he's 'hunting'. This is not his natural state, however; he's pretty shy, blushes often, can be teased to flustered stuttering by a few clever lines. He is physically affectionate only with Qui and Zan, and keeps his hands to himself when it comes to anyone else. He's intelligent and has a better grasp on the political climate than Qui does, which has definitely come in handy since Qui became the most recent Tlatoani. Grey serves unofficially as a sort of adviser to him, as the politics of other countries have always interested Grey and he prefers the gossip related to it. He relegates whatever is applicable to Qui, to spare him from having to sit through the annoying meetings with country representatives himself. Grey has gained a reputation of being an adviser now, and representatives will often bypass Qui to speak only with him. He's good at putting on a more professional front but the three of them (Qui, Zan and Grey) act as teenagers again whenever they have a chance to be alone. He teases the two of them relentlessly, filling a big brother gap that neither had ever realized was empty.
