traipsing though the utter dark
walking underneath the dead moonlight
Xerxes is the doctor everybody wished they'd get when they end up at the hospital. She's a beautiful woman who's built like a brick outhouse; she's got a shaved mohawk that's all sorts of pretty colors and heterochromatic eyes that always look like they're laughing a little. She has geometric tattoos on both arms down to her hands and fingers and she can definitely dead lift everyone on this dumb ship without breathing hard. She's 5'10" but her presence lends her a great deal more height when she needs it. Xerxes never seems frightened or in a rush or nervous; she's cool as a clam no matter what she's doing, and her hands are the steadiest the crew has seen in all their travels. She can be kind of merciless with medical treatment, and she's definitely not the type of doctor to sit at your bedside and hold your hand. If she can't wait for the pain meds to kick or if she doesn't have any on hand she'll do ahead with an emergency procedure anyway and she won't apologize for it. She absolutely cannot be hurried if she doesn't want to be. She drinks a special tea every single morning and if she misses her cup she is unbearable to be around for the rest of the day.
Mostly Xerxes is deadpan and savage as hell but she softens up for Honey and Vega, because everyone kind of does. She knows about Vega being a human-Abraxas hybrid and protects the secret very fiercely; she will never tell anybody because it is not her secret to tell. She's kind of a mama bear with the crew and goes shoulder to shoulder with Honey when someone does something dumb and needs to be chewed out (Hawthorne, always). She is not really a pacifist but she's never volunteered to fight before; the one time she had to pick up a gun to save Hawthorne's life she was so ruthless with it that Hawthorne never asked her about it again. He still talks about it sometimes, with the faraway glittery look in his eye of a true believer. Xerxes has a ton of questionable connections on literally every planet the Vibe Check has ever landed on and the for the most part the crew doesn't get it. These connections are always willing to lend her money, a new ship, an alibi, whatever, and none of them ever make her ask twice. In truth it's because she spent a lot of her youth meandering through space patching folks up for nothing but an owed favor, and now she has dozens to cash in. She refuses to ever explain this to the crew because she secretly gets a kick out of their hero worship every time she saves their butts.
