I love everything
fire spreading all around my room
As far as Coyotl knows he's one of the only people who has ever walked into the Desert willingly. He was born in the Valisian plane in Hechiz, the younger brother of a man who was determined to become Tlatoani. Coyotl never had any ambition for it himself but he was putty in his brother's hands; his brother raised him with the intention of Coyotl being a guard, a protector, and a personal assassin. When his brother took the throne Coyotl was ten, and he spent the next nine years doing whatever the Tlatoani told him to. His moral compass is a little messed up due to this long exposure to an immoral guide, so Coyotl cannot be relied on to decide whether something should or should not be done. He has little mercy and expects people to figure things out for themselves. He disagrees with Verbena encouraging Quetzalxochitl to help people and makes fun of Eltaninn when he chips in too. Eltaninn is quietly grinding these sharp edges away but it will be a long, exhaustive process before he is done. Coyotl is very noticeably 'predator'; he walks softly and silently, and there's a promise of violence around him that never fully goes away, not even when he's sleeping.
Coyotl has done many bad things in his past and he infrequently talks about it. The gods led him to the Desert when he asked for a way to escape his brother; he walked in through a door three years ago and bumped into Eltaninn not ten seconds later, that strange green snake on his arm coiling up in preparation to strike. Coyotl initially believed Eltaninn was a witch and the snake his familiar but Eltaninn was so nonthreatening that Coyotl quickly gave it up. He followed Eltaninn to the inn and he never left; he helps check people in now, largely ignores their complaints and cries, and gleefully hangs their keys up when they wander into the Desert to try and find their own way home. Coyotl does like Eltaninn, Verbena and Quetzal but it's a little hard to tell; he's usually pretty mean, sharp-tongued and unapologetic. He does run errands for Verbena when she asks him though, even if he will complain the entire time, and he'll curl up in the lobby and listen to Eltaninn tell stories of his past when the other man is feeling talkative without speaking at all. He's strange to be around, a little light-footed, a little prone to pocketing things just because he can, but he's endearing nonetheless. Something about his endless patience with his friends; his blind obedience that they're trying to wear out of him, the way he's always got a dozen weapons on hand just in case.
