The universe is still mostly a wild place; kept in check by universal peacekeepers like the UUN Defendry but too big for any one organization to see everything. Much of the law relies on private bounty hunting guilds then, reputations ranging from the lawless to the legal. The BHG Vibe Check falls somewhere in the middling space then, captained by Hawthorne McVee, failed Defendry cadet and all around infamously famous. The Vibe Check doesn't actually belong to a bounty hunting guild at all, Hawthorne being generally allergic to authority and also paying dues to anyone. BHG in fact just stands for "bounty hunting guild" but looks official enough that most planets will let him land without many questions. If they do ask questions, he of course has all the proper documentation to convince them of his validity. |
The First is Helianthus, nicknamed Honey to everybody but Captain Hawthorne. Wednesday is the Vibe Check's only engineer, immediately recognizable for his both his bubblegum pink hair and the rainbow bird who rides on his shoulder (October). Vega is their navigator, the youngest of the crew and the only one to be actually hired, the others being bribed, momentarily borrowed, swindled or in Wednesday's case just there for their own amusement. The standoffish Perihelion is their helmsman and the only person the crew is convinced can pull off that cape they always wear and Xerxes is their doctor. Also in a pinch their backup, though the grief Doc gives Hawthorne in return for her help is usually too steep a price to pay.
Their newest member is Uschi Coldwell, of the Coldwell Planetary Alliance. He's become their sort of de facto communicator, though it was never their intention to keep the Coldwell heir to themselves. |
There is no overarching, universal government body so for the most part, if Hawthorne is careful and keeps his head down, he and his crew can go on as they have been. Uschi's presence makes their upcoming missions a little trickier; there's a greater need for stealth than they've ever required before.
That being said, Uschi Coldwell has no intention of going home to his controlling, hierarchical family. Between his money and Xerxes' many inexplicable connections the BHG Vibe Check is in a good place to move forward, sniping assignments from legitimate bounty hunting guilds and taking the less savory missions when they come up. Uschi has been an unexpected boon, despite his presence also causing a number of complications. He's well educated and multilingual and as good a liar as they get, eclipsing even Hawthorne in his talent. |
